Hiring Out A Function Room

roomhire.jpgA lot of pubs, clubs and hotels have a back room that is rarely used and could be generating extra profit.

Advertise the room for hire for private parties and functions. Depending on the size and type of room you have, people may be willing to hire it out for…

  • Wedding receptions
  • Christenings
  • Birthday parties
  • Engagement parties
  • Work functions
  • Wake
  • Stag & hen nights
  • Club & society meetings
  • Corporate presentations

You must advertise the fact that the room is available to hire. Perhaps posters around the bar or a banner on the outside of your pub directed at people walking or driving past. An advert in the local newspaper is also a good way to let people know about your function room. You could also design a small flyer and send it out to local clubs and societies, offering your venue as a potential meeting place.

How much you can charge for hiring out your function room depends on how much the competition charges. It may even be worth considering hiring it for free if you will make money on the bar or through food sales, particularly during a quieter period.

If you are a food pub you can also charge to do the catering for the event. If you are not a ‘food’ pub then it is usually quite simple to prepare a light buffet if requested.

As an additional service you can offer to decorate the room for the customer for an extra cost. For example, with banners, balloons, bunting, etc. for weddings, birthdays and christenings.

Customers may also wish to stay later than standard opening hours or have entertainment for their event so ensure you have licenses for these services should you wish to offer them.

Aside from hiring the room out, you could also run regular events and activities in your back room. See our event ideas guide for ideas which include Bingo Nights, Speed Dating, Coffee Mornings, Film Nights and more.
